Aims of our Curriculum

Our school has a broad and balanced curriculum that fosters a love of learning.

We aspire to make learning memorable by adding value and managing risk. We have: • a wonder of books • a deep understanding of numbers and the principles of mathematics • a cherishing of the arts • an enthusiasm for sport.

Principles of our Curriculum
Our curriculum is –
• strong in meeting the needs of learners.
• a rich provision throughout the day that provides an interesting and stimulating learning environment.
• allowing us to know our pupils well and shape the curriculum around them. Because of this we raise standards, achievement and self-esteem.
• promoting deep-thinking and encouragement through greater learner involvement.
• embracing learning challenges through a creative approach and enhances children’s reasoning skills.
• based around our school’s context.
• accessible to all children irrespective of their gender, ability, socio-economic circumstances, differences and ethnicity.
• creating opportunities for children at Holly to experience pride in Achievement in a whole range of curriculum subjects, through a varied range of learning opportunities, in and out of the classroom, within and beyond the school day.

Outcomes of our Curriculum

• Our curriculum is planned on a spiral through our whole school curriculum framework; it delivers progressive skills through fun and stimulating learning – intervention is put in place quickly to narrow the gaps.
• Our curriculum is well matched to the interests and needs of the children providing stimulating first hand experiences (enriched by visitors into school and planned off site visits).
• Our curriculum is matched to the children’s needs through a range of appropriate resources and enhances access for all children and enables learners the opportunity to develop different learning styles.
• Our curriculum ensures leaders are knowledgeable and aware of standards of teaching and learning in their curriculum area.
• Our curriculum builds a partnership between school and home (Reading for pleasure, embedding children’s learning at home).

The aims of our School

Holly Primary School is a very special place to be. Our school is a happy place for everyone to be in and we try to combine the best of both traditional and latest thinking in education. The governors, staff and parents all work together as a team to provide the best opportunities for children. Our School prides itself in providing a broad and balanced curriculum. Our values of happiness, teamwork and respect help us build a better future for all of our school. Every day at Holly Primary School has something new and different to offer. All of our children, across school, look forward to coming each day. Children feel safe and secure in the happy and caring environment of our school. There is no greater importance to parents and carers, or to our school, than the safety of all of our children. Safeguarding is our number one priority.

Principles of our School

• We will help children to stay safe and feel protected through creating a warm friendly atmosphere, which offers a sense of community, a feeling of belonging and create a stimulating and motivated environment that celebrates the achievements of children.
• We will enhance children’s awareness of self and sensitivity to others; to acquire a set of moral values and to develop self-discipline and an understanding of appropriate behaviour; to encourage a healthier lifestyle.
• We will encourage children to gain knowledge, skills, attitudes and moral values relevant to adult life, society and employment regardless of gender, race, ethnic origin, belief or ability.
• We will provide children with a broad and balanced curriculum that inspires an enthusiasm for lifelong learning whilst delivering the National Curriculum.
• We will enable parents, teachers and governors to work in partnership so that the relationship between home and school encourages involvement in all aspects of school life.
• We will provide a balance of suitably qualified staff with personal and professional qualities, which enables them to work together as an effective team and to provide the school with sufficient range of high quality learning resources to ensure the effective delivery of the curriculum to all pupils.
• We encourage our children’s growing independence and sense of responsibility for their own health, well-being, actions and behaviour, demonstrating respect and concern for others and the environment.

• Continuity and progression is ensured through our progression of essential skills and year group expectations, with support for all learners, as well as additional challenge for the more able.
• Social, moral, spiritual and cultural development is deeply embedded throughout our curriculum, linking work together in a cohesive way and throughout school, we actively promote British Values.
• The effectiveness of learning within the curriculum is based on high expectations of good behaviour and hard work.
