Mrs Rebecca Brooks - EYFS Teacher, Geography

A big warm welcome from the Foundation Team! We have had a wonderful start to the new school year! We hope children have enjoyed their first week! We have all been very impressed by how well they have all settled in and we are excited for the year ahead! Please can we remind Miss Millington’s and Mrs Mayhew’s parents to encourage their children to line up outside before school starts.

Please can you write when you read with your child, in their reading diary. Every time your child has read or listened to you read, this will contribute to them achieving their 100 reads, where they will receive a prize and a certificate in assembly. As the year progresses and your child begins to bring home their own ‘stickered’ books, reading every day, even just for 5 minutes, will really help them develop reading and writing skills and will help them develop a lifelong love of reading!

For Miss Millington’s and Mrs Mayhew’s children, PE will be on a Monday, please ensure your child has a PE kit in school ready for PE. This half-term PE will take place in the hall so a t-shirt and shorts is all they will need. We will advise you if and when this changes. Please encourage your child to undress and dress themselves at home, as this really helps them be able to do so during PE sessions.

Forest Fun will begins… if they don’t already have some wellies, could you please ensure they have some in school ready for next Monday. We will go out into the woods, the summer house, in the gardens/poly tunnel throughout the week so always try to ensure your child has a practical coat in school.

In Literacy, we will be reading Rosie’s Walk and The Little Red Hen, if you have these books at home it would be nice for them to hear these stories at home too. We will be re-telling these stories, acting them out, drawing story maps and eventually re-writing these stories. Children will then have the opportunity to create their own versions of the stories.

In number, we will be counting, recognising, ordering numbers up to 20. Please help your child by encouraging them to do lots of counting at home also.

In phonics, nursery will be doing lots of nursery rhymes and animal sounds. In F2 we will begin more formal letter and sound recognition, your child will receive homework to correspond with what they have been learning in school. Please help your child by going through the alphabet and discussing the letter names and sounds. Information on the letter and sounds which we teach in school, can be found on the internet by researching ‘Letters and Sounds Phase 2’. Education City is also a great tool in helping your child learn at home. Log-in details will be provided next week.

Our doors are always open so if you ever have any questions or queries please pop in and see us.

Thank you for your continued support,

Foundation Team.
