Foundation Fun – Spring One Overview

Welcome back! We hope you have had a magical Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed the break! We’re very eager to start the new year and we have lots of exciting things planned for this new term!

This half term our topic is going to be ‘animals and pets’. Children will experience animals of different types (e.g. pets, farm, zoo and woodland animals) through pictures, photographs, books, video clips, small world play, visits and visitors. These will include birds, mammals, reptiles and fish.

Children will learn and be encouraged to talk about different features of animals, including; body shape, size and covering, how it moves, behaves and what it eats, and how to care for it. As well as identifying similarities and differences.

In literacy, our reading focus will be on stories written by the author Emily Gravett, as most of her stories are about animals and/or pets. Children will be writing lists of what pets/animals need, letters to animals and visitors, labelling body parts/features and writing information fact sheets for our own class encyclopedia.

For F2 children, PE will continue to be on Monday. We will begin to use the large apparatus in the hall, so please ensure children have shorts and a t-shirt in school ready for each Monday’s PE lesson. Children in nursery will have a hall slot each week also, please help your child’s PE session run smoothly by encouraging them to practice taking their shoes and socks on and off independently at home.

Nursery Forest Fun will now be on a Wednesday and F2 Forest Fun will continue to be on a Thursday, so please ensure children are dressed appropriately for their outdoor activities.

Please continue to listen to your child read regularly and note this in their diaries. Many children have already achieved their 100 reads and they will receive a certificate and a special prize in our special Friday assembly very soon.

If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to pop in and see us anytime.

Thank you for your continued support.
